Thursday, May 11, 4-5:30pm Federal Building (ewa side of the Federal Bldg along Ala Moana)

The firing of FBI director James Comey is an outrageous escalation in the un-relenting onslaught of the fascist moves from the Trump/Pence Regime. It reveals theTrump/Pence's regime total disregard of the rule of law and due process & justice. We must not wait it out. Take to the streets, demand Trump, Pence, Session and the whole regime be driven from power.

Hundreds participated in the People's Climate March in Honolulu last Saturday, joining hundreds of thousands in climate marches  across the U.S. and around the world!    People gathered at Waikiki Gateway Park where they held signs as others joined them, and then assembled to hear short speeches from 350.org, members of the faith community, and the World Can't Wait spokesperson.  As the march went through Waikiki hundreds of tourists clapped, shouted their agreement, and raised their fists.  The march ended at the front of Honolulu Zoo, where people gathered for a rally.  One of the high points of the rally was an 11-year old speaker from Tokelau who spoke of the effect of climate change to her island nation.

For mainstream media reports of the local action see Hawai`i News Now and Star Advertiser.   Here are some photos:

April: A Month of Resistance!

During April, millions of people took to the streets to speak out against the Trump/Pence Regime. They marched, they rallied, they drummed and they chanted.  People who had never marched before became organizers.  People and organizations that  had never worked together worked to lead mass protests.  Scientists stepped out of their laboratories; labor unions rallied their members; and faith groups spoke out for the planet. People made their voices heard at Town Hall meetings; they fought to create sanctuary cities and states; and they held forums.  And yes, all of this happened in Honolulu too!  Some of the major actions in Honolulu:

→  April 15:  Tax Day March.  About 500 people participated in a march and rally to demand that Trump show his taxes and for government transparency.  The march was in solidarity with more than 300 others across the U.S.

→  April 22:  March for Science:      More than 2300 people participated in Honolulu's march and rally in solidarity with more than 500 marches across the U.S. and around the world

→  April 29:  People's Climate March:  700-1000 marched through Waikiki, in solidarity with hundreds of thousands across the U.S. and around the world.

→  May 1st Protest:  More than 500 marched for labor rights and immigrant rights in an action called by a coalition of labor unions and joined by allies, joining millions in the U.S. and around the world who were on the streets on May 1st.

World Can't Wait/RefuseFascism participated in all of these, as well as in smaller actions such as  the protest against Mike Pence, against Tania's deportation, and more.   You couldn't miss our big "NO!  In the Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America" placards, reflecting the urgency of the situation we face today.

This growing movement of resistance is something to celebrate, but it's not enough.  The Trump/Pence Regime is still in power and much greater resistance is needed to drive the fascist regime out!

We urge you to link up with World Can't Wait/Refuse Fascism Hawai`i to be part of building resistance.   We are making big plans for the summer.  Want to know more?   Join us at a public discussion of what's needed and what we're aiming to do on Wednesday, May 10th, at 6:300 at the Friends Meeting House in Manoa.
